Innovative Technology

Carbonization is a natural process through which, under pressure but at low temperatures, peat and coal are produced from biomass. SunCoal Industries has developed a technology, which accelerates this process from millions of years to only 6–12 hours.

The SunCoal Industries CarboREN® technology is based on the principles of hydrothermal carbonization. This process was invented at the beginning of the 20th century by Friedrich Bergius, encompassing the carbonization of biomass to coal within a few hours using a high-pressure chamber at high temperatures.

The CarboREN technology utilizes green waste from municipalities (grass, leaves, etc.) or other organic waste from industrial processes (wood chips, cane waste, etc.) to produce dry and solid SunCoal® biofuel, which has similar characteristics to dry brown coal. The CarboREN technology is extremely energy efficient, scalable and allows the use of a wide variety of organic materials.
